Dublin City University Experiments in Connectivity Analysis for TREC-9
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dublin City University (DCU) took part in the Web Track (small task) in TREC-9. Our experiments were based on evaluating a number of connectivity analysis algorithms that we hoped would produce a marked improvement over a baseline Vector Space model system. Our connectivity experiments are all based on non-iterative post-query algorithms, which rerank a set of documents returned from content-only VSM queries. We feel that in order to implement a real-world system based on connectivity analysis the algorithms must have a low query-time processing overhead, hence our employment of noniterative algorithms. Our results showed that we were unable to improve over a content-only run with our algorithms. We believe this to be mainly due to the nature of the link structure within the WT10g dataset.

Dublin City University at the TREC 2006 Terabyte Track
For the 2006 Terabyte track in TREC, Dublin City University’s participation was focussed on the ad hoc search task. As per the pervious two years [7, 4], our experiments on the Terabyte track have concentrated on the evaluation of a sorted inverted index, the aim of which is to sort the postings within each posting list in such a way, that allows only a limited number of postings to be processe...

Dublin City University participated in the interactive search task and Shot Boundary Detection task of the TREC Video Track. In the interactive search task experiment thirty people used three different digital video browsers to find video segments matching the given topics. Each user was under a time constraint of six minutes for each topic assigned to them. The purpose of this experiment was t...
متن کاملExperiments in Terabyte Searching, Genomic Retrieval and Novelty Detection for TREC 2004
In TREC2004, Dublin City University took part in three tracks, Terabyte (in collaboration with University College Dublin), Genomic and Novelty. In this paper we will discuss each track separately and present separate conclusions from this work. In addition, we present a general description of a text retrieval engine that we have developed in the last year to support our experiments into large s...
متن کاملDCU at the TREC 2008 Blog Track
In this paper we describe our system, experiments and results from our participation in the Blog Track at TREC 2008. Dublin City University participated in the adhoc retrieval, opinion finding and polarised opinion finding tasks. For opinion finding, we used a fusion of approaches based on lexicon features, surface features and syntactic features. Our experiments evaluated the relative usefulne...

For the 2005 Terabyte track in TREC Dublin City University participated in all three tasks: Adhoc, Efficiency and Named Page Finding. Our runs for TREC in all tasks were primarily focussed on the application of “Top Subset Retrieval” to the Terabyte Track. This retrieval utilises different types of sorted inverted indices so that less documents are processed in order to reduce query times, and ...
